This poem was written by Carolyn Hafner on July 14th, 1993
It is the last poem she wrote.

So many years ago
I knew you wouldn’t mind
I changed my name to innocent
I left the past behind

Before I knew your trembling heart
Before my tears were cried and washed
Before my life fell all apart
It’s time for a new day

It’s sweeter than the morning dew
Upon a petalled rose
It’s warmer than the rising sun
My love for you still grows

The shifting sand beneath my feet
Has taught me how to dance
The pines that cling along the rock
Have taught me to take a chance

The wind that blew me off the cliff
Has taught me how to fly
Who’d guess I’d really learn to live
In learning how to die
